This Halloween, local trick-or-treater Jason Friedman is clarifying that he is not just Spiderman, he is Miles Morales Spiderman, to his elderly neighbor who hasn’t been to the theaters since ‘86.
“No, his name is Miles, not Peter. Peter Parker is from the OTHER dimension,” said Friedman, to his blank-staring neighbor who was trying to remember if he ever watched the original Spiderman. “You can tell which Spiderman I am because the suit is black, and the spider is spray-painted on because Miles designed it himself. The other Spider suits are red, but Miles’s suit is black.”
“No, there is a Spider Verse and there are dozens of different Spidermans,” said Friedman, waiting for his neighbor to turn down his cassette player and put down his newspaper crossword. “Miles is the coolest Spiderman though because he can turn invisible and the other Spidermen can’t do that! And he is different from Peter, because Miles’s dad is a police officer and it is so crazy when he discovers his Uncle Aaron is the Prowler! The evil villain was his uncle the whole time!”
At press time, Friedman’s neighbor was recalling a similar evil-father-figure plot twist from the last movie he saw called Star Wars.
