Twins Keep On Confusing Themselves For Each Other

Published Friday, April 24th, 2015

Sources report that Mark and Jimmy Whitman ‘18 are always getting one another mixed up with the other. The two identical twins have always looked alike, but they still find it surprising that they mix each other up so often.

“It’s a bit embarrassing that even I can’t keep my twin brother Mark and myself straight,” said Mark, under the impression that he was Jimmy. “After all, we’ve known each other since birth. We should really have figured it out by now."

Their confusion about their own and the other’s identity has gotten the pair into more than their fair share of mix-ups.

“I remember when I accidentally went to Mark’s class,” said Jimmy. “I don’t even know calculus! So strange that I didn’t notice!”

Mark brought up the time that Jimmy accidentally went on a date with Mark’s girlfriend as one of the most hilarious consequences of their predicament. Said Mark, “Of course she noticed, but she didn’t say anything! I don’t think Jimmy had any idea he was dating her as Mark until a month had gone by.”

At one point, Mark and Jimmy devised a plan to tell each other apart, dying their hair different colors. “Mark was red and I was blonde,” said Jimmy. “Until the next day, when I woke up and thought I was Mark, so I re-dyed my hair red. Mark saw my red hair and assumed he must have been Jimmy, so he dyed his hair blonde. That happened every day for twelve years until all our hair fell out from the chemicals.”

“Everyone else can tell them apart,” said the boys’ mother Helen Whitman, knitting identical sweaters for her sons. “Except for me. A mother never knows.”
