Committed to keeping Brown a great place to be, the Corporation has recently approved extensive renovations on a whole bunch of things all over campus.
“We care about quality of life at Brown. That’s why we’re planning on renovating all these things,” said Executive Vice President for University Advancement Sylvia Reinholdt. “We’re renovating big things, small things and things that people look at on campus tours. There’s some really exciting stuff coming up.” Reinholdt gestured somewhere to her left and added, “We’re especially excited to see that thing over there all fixed up.”
Citing the need for “better things for students," the proposal plans to “make lots of stuff a lot nicer.” Reinholdt made sure to add that “big changes cost big dollars," but defended the $78 million plan on the grounds that “things are just going to be so nice.” Things will start being made nicer immediately, and will continue over the coming year.
On Pembroke, the University plans on taking that one building and completely turning it around. Main campus, a serious concern to the department, is to undergo some serious upgrades as conditions are made much better and they add a cool new thing where that old one used to be, at a price tag of an additional five or 20 million.
Brown students have generally expressed approval of the plan. “The thing where they put that one thing on top of the other is going to be pretty sweet,” said Lydia Gilbert ’14. “It’s going to be really shiny.”
Tuition is set to rise 4 percent.
