Recent reports on Paul Goggins ’27 indicate that he spent the majority of his winter break workshopping his impression of German filmmaker Werner Herzog.
“Do you not then hear zis horrible scream all around you zat people usually call silence?” asked Goggins, quoting Herzog in his signature German drawl, before going back to his American accent. “And that’s just a taste of what I’ve gotten down. Man, this break has been going well.”
“He has that movie about a guy that’s half man and half bear, I think,” said Goggins when asked about his favorite Herzog films, referring to the film Grizzly Man. “To tell you the truth, I’ve mostly been honing the accent because he sounds funny.”
“And yeah, I mean it when I say I’ve been workshopping this. I can find a way to use it in essentially any conversation I’m in,” he continued. “We’re talking art? That’s film adjacent. Time for some Herzog. Foreign policy? Usually involves Germany indirectly. I’ll whip out the ‘zog. Your dog died? Uhh… A funny accent might cheer you up.”
At press time, another student wasted his winter break refining his resumé and applying to internships.
