The protagonist of a young adult novel smiled weakly as he let out a hoarse whisper, sources reported.
A jolt of surprise went through protagonist Brad Exhume as a masked man landed a harsh blow. The man, armed with a metal pipe, dropped it with a clang before making a swift escape. Exhume craned his neck to try and get a better view of his assailant, but to no avail.
“I rubbed my eyes with disbelief,” said one onlooker, her face falling. “I heard a dull thump and a clang, and then I saw him there sprawled on the ground.”
Exhume smirked at his situation. Two days in a row he’d been ambushed outside of his middle school. He held his wrist, wincing as he muttered curses under his breath.
“Agh, I think my arm’s broken,” he groaned. His eyes darting from his arm to his surroundings, desperately looking for his attacker. “This is not good. Not good at all.”
At press time, Brad Exhume woke with a start, hoping that the whole thing had just been a horrible nightmare.
