You're The Most Beautiful Thing I've Ever Seen, And I've Been To Hawaii

Published Tuesday, October 6th, 2015

Margaret, my darling. I love you so much. When I look at you, my heart swells and I remember that I’m the luckiest guy in the whole world. Truly, you are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, and I saw some unbelievable stuff on my two-week trip to Hawaii back in 2011.

Where do I even begin? You have the prettiest green eyes—even greener than the taro fields of North Kauai. Did I ever show you the pictures I took of those fields? I wish you could’ve been there with me to see them in person. Oh Marge, it was incredible.

Almost as incredible as our honeymoon.

I love your hair. It’s as straight as the arrow that pierced my heart the first day we met and jet-black like the volcanic basalt deposits that gave birth to beautiful Hawaii. I love the way it drapes over your shoulders. You could be on a postcard.

Seven months before I asked you to marry me and just thirteen months after I went cliff diving off the Kalaupapa Peninsula, do you remember where we were? We were on our very first date at the Lotus Grill. My God, you looked good in your red dress. I was even more nervous than when I was standing on top of that breathtaking cliff looking down into clear blue water. Or when I was on that helicopter tour over the Big Island volcanoes.

And you know how I feel about heights. How’d I get so lucky?

There’s that smile. The smile that’s lovelier than any of the 5000 pictures I have from my tour of the Waipio Valley. You know they say a picture is worth a thousand words, but words could not describe the beauty of the Hi’ilawe Falls. And I’d still rather be looking at you. I love it when you blush.

Margaret, my Margaret. You are perfect. You are all eight of the Hawaiian Islands and more. I can’t wait to grow old with you and see your face every morning, preferably in some tropical bungalow just outside Honolulu. That would be spectacular.

Now, let’s put out these tiki torches and go back inside. Happy anniversary, sweetheart.
