Waves of hysteria broke out across campus last night as the Brown Concert Agency announced the successful booking of Andrew Suzuki '09 for Spring Weekend.
Suzuki will headline the evening concert on Friday, April 10th as well as the afternoon concert on Saturday, April 11th and the Sunday afternoon spot traditionally reserved for Dave Binder, confirmed a spokeswoman from Atlantic Records, which represents the artist.
Following the underwhelming performances by Lupe Fiasco and M.I.A. during Spring Weekend '08, BCA truly pulled out all the stops this time to avoid another year of disappointment for the Brown community.
"We've been negotiating with Suzuki and his agent since the artist was a freshman," said Abby Schreiber '11, BCA's booking chair. "But we've never been able to reach an agreement that satisfied all parties. This year, we've finally settled on a compromise and the timing couldn't be better."
Sources who know the artist well contend that four years at Brown has "mellowed Andy out a little bit," and swayed Suzuki to back down from some of his early demands. A friend of the artist who preferred to remain anonymous confirmed that a weekly gig at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, a life-sized portrait of the artist in President Ruth Simmons' office, and a daily puzzle in the BDH called "Andy Sudoku" were all on Suzuki's list of requirements that BCA simply couldn't fulfill.
The artist himself was unavailable for comment, but his agent reassured the Noser that Suzuki was simply "channeling his mojo" for the upcoming performances. Meanwhile, the Brown community waits with eager anticipation.
