Brown's First Opposite Day a Failure

Published Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

The campus was up in arms yesterday after Brown's first attempted Opposite Day resulted in failure, spreading joy and excitement among the student body.

The day was poorly planned and included very few activities. Students were upset with the giant bouncing castle, free cotton candy, and performances by hip-hop and R&B sensation Brian McKnight.

"I really know what didn't happen," said Hugh Livengood, Chair of the Student Activities Committee. "There weren't really any major problems, which took the entire event staff by shock and caused us a lot of trouble. We were scrambling to make sure nothing went too right, because then it would be too wrong."

The Student Activities Committee originally conceived the event as part of the UCS-led revamping of campus events. The failure of the event, however, has caused UCS to establish a committee to investigate what went right and to begin planning next year's Opposite Day.

"It was nuts. It was the best school-run event ever. I wish that we had one of these things every week," said Sophie Charlesfield '09.

Other students had different opinions of the day.

"I honestly had no idea what was going on," commented freshman Greg Stein, "I'm going to be straight with you: it didn't make any sense to me."

There are many different opinions about the event but the general student consensus is that, on the whole, the event wasn't worth their time and they never want to experience it again. Most students say they can't wait for next
year.
