Students of NAMA1020: Reservations about Native Americans were ecstatic to learn that the seminar, which meets on Mondays from 3 - 5:20 p.m., would not convene on October 8, which was also Columbus Day this year.
Meghan Welan '10 relayed the joy she felt when she heard the news. "It was such a relief when Professor Claw told us class was canceled. We had all been worried that he was going to make us come to class just to spite Columbus, but I'm not Indian so why should I suffer, you know?"
The professor of the class, Eagle's Claw, says he made the decision to cancel the seminar for a number of reasons.
"I let the students miss class so they could observe their peers celebrating this brutal holiday and then write a reaction paper on it. This has proved to be a rewarding task in the past. Plus, I was probably going to be absent anyway. Foxwoods had a great special that Monday only-every thirty dollars at blackjack got you a free commemorative Columbus Day '07 shot glass. Don't get me wrong, I hate the man, but when life hands you lemons, or in this case mass genocide, you've got to make lemonade or at least lemon juice."
