Student Accidentally Calls Roommate By Ex-Roommate's Name

Published Friday, December 3rd, 2010

Mackle agreed to an interview with the Brown Noser to discuss his feelings about the accident because he can't afford a therapist. Carrying a box of tissues, Mackle introduced himself saying, "Please, call me Dennis. No, seriously, make sure you call me Dennis."

Dennis Mackle '13 has been close to tears for the past two weeks. After Mackle's roommate,
Christopher Edelman '13, called him by the wrong name, Mackle has begun to question their live-in relationship. This accidental slip-up has led to a near emotional breakdown for Mackle and slight embarrassment for Edelman, for the name Edelman used was that of his ex-roommate, Warren Scroggs '13.

According to Mackle, he and Edelman had been playing Call of Duty on the evening of the incident. "It was our thing, you know - what we did every night before homework," Mackle said nostalgically. The two were kicking some virtual Spetsnaz ass, and at a very climactic moment Edelman yelled, "Hell yes Warren! Yes!"

Edelman did not recognize his mistake until Mackle threw his controller and ran from the room crying hysterically. "And even then, Chris didn't stop playing the stupid game to follow me and ask what was wrong. It's obvious he just doesn't care about me anymore," Mackle sniffled, reaching for his tissues.

Between sobs, he added, "I mean, I had suspected that Chris and Warren probably played Call of Duty back when they were roommates, but it's not something that I like to think about." Mackle has since been plagued by mental images of Chris and Warren playing video games together. "The worst part," Mackle adds, "is that now I know that every time Chris was playing Call of Duty with me, he was really thinking about Warren."

At this point in the interview, Mackle pulled out a spoon and a pint of Ben & Jerry's from his bag and proceeded to sob and talk through mouthfuls of chocolate fudge brownie ice cream. Mackle confessed that directly following the incident, he logged onto Facebook and clicked the "See Friendship" for Edelman and Scroggs.

"Chris looked so happy back when he was living with Warren. You can tell by their photos and the events they attended that they were really close roommates," Mackle said, slightly difficult to understand with all the ice cream in his mouth.

"And then I figured out that if Chris was so used to saying Warren's name, it's gotta be because he's been seeing Warren a lot recently," Mackle explained, wide-eyed with his impressive logic. He therefore decided to take his stalking from Facebook to the real world.

Mackle began to follow Edelman around campus "to see if he was still chilling and playing video games with Warren." The first day Mackle followed his roommate, he saw Edelman walk into Little Jo's. "And Warren lives in New Dorm, so it must have been their rendezvous spot," Mackle determined reasonably, now finished with his pint of ice cream.

When asked if Mackle would ever consider a roommate change, the response was immediate. "Never. I could never leave Chris. Even though he's hurt me, I'll just have to prove to him that I'm ten times better at Call of Duty than Warren ever was."
