The BDH's Grandma Bakes Bad Brownies | Apr 27 2007

I want to preface this editorial by saying that The Daily Herald's grandma is a fantastic lady. She's as nice as can be, is "with it" and "hip," and has the body of a woman 20 years younger than herself. My recent visit to her Warwick home, however, has pointed out a glaring flaw in an otherwise perfect grandmotherly veneer. She makes, despite all of her metaphorical sweetness, the most bitter, inedible brownies I've ever tasted.

Every school has a few urban myths, superstitions, and secret societies that everyone knows about but no one has the guts to speak about openly. Yale has Skull and Bones, Harvard has their infamously sinister debate/world domination team, and Brown has the EMS. What appears to outsiders and na've freshmen to be a straightforward emergency response team for the Brown community is, in reality, a local cell for an illicit international organization known only as The Conglomerate.

The first of December, 2006, saw the release of The Brown Noser, a newspaper designed to fill what it describes as a "gaping void in our comedy landscape." With their brilliantly executed distribution program, the staff of The Noser was able to distribute its rag across the campus here at Brown University, inundating students with their peculiar brand of "humor."
