Department of Labor Recommends Doing Something With Your Hands

Published Friday, April 24th, 2015

In a report released Wednesday, the United States Department of Labor recommended that Americans doing something with their hands that really gets their hearts pumping. According to the report, if Americans want to be successful they should try making something or fixing something, like folks used to do.

Containing sections on carpentry, leather tanning, and bow hunting, the report cautions that too many Americans sit and watch the world pass them by, when they really should be getting out there and feeling it.

“Our studies have shown that Americans would rather sit at a computer than build a chair,” said Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez, gesturing with his strong, calloused hands. “That’s all wrong. Our hands are the most powerful tools we’re given, and we owe it to God to make something beautiful. Something that’s ours."

In a companion report released by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the department recommended that Americans designate at least one night out of every week “me night,” devoted to taking care of what truly matters: themselves.
