Lucky Kid Catches Javelin At Olympics

Published Friday, December 4th, 2015

Smiling ear to ear, 9-year-old Tyler Fenn was fortunate enough to catch an errant javelin thrown by Trinidadian gold-medalist Keshorn Walcott. Fenn managed to snag the deadly weapon, which was hurtling towards the crowd at 70 miles an hour, from the air without being impaled or incurring serious injury.

“I caught it!” yelled an exuberant Fenn, proudly thrusting the sharp 2.5-meter-long spear up above his head. “Dad, look! I caught it!”

Fenn’s father Richard deserves some of the credit for his son’s brilliant catch. When Richard saw the javelin hurtling towards the crowd, he lifted his son up onto his shoulders so that Tyler could reach up and snatch it out of the air.

“I just know that this is a moment he’ll cherish forever,” said his father, who has been attending javelin competitions for many years but never been lucky enough to catch one himself. “Once he gets home I bet he’ll be showing it off to everyone at school.”

Unfortunately for Fenn, Walcott’s next throw got his dad straight through the jugular.
