BOLT Leaders Thrilled To Sleep Under Wet Tarp For Zero Pay

Published Friday, September 22nd, 2023

Following this year’s backpacking trip, Brown’s BOLT leaders announced their joy at getting to sleep under a wet tarp while earning no financial compensation at all.

“Brown Outdoor Leadership Training is such an incredible program, and I’m so glad I could give back to it this year,” gushed Bryce Ware, one of the program’s student leaders, who spent every night of the trip crammed under a sodden tarp with several sophomores. “I love helping to create a supportive community at Brown and trekking through the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire to boot!”

“I work for fun, not wages. Volunteers are where it’s at!” continued Ware, whose tarp contained a hole that allowed rain, mud, and bugs to seep in each night. “I’m here for the outdoor experience and the valuable work of mentoring sophomores in the woods. And I just love it.”

At press time, premed students were enjoying severing mice vertebrae for their unpaid lab positions.
