Next month, Brown Market Shares will offer students freshly-baked loaves of warm, mouthwatering bread, and also eight pounds of mustard greens.
“I’m so glad we get to support local farmers through Market Shares,” said Market Shares volunteer Jenny Gold, organizing several jars of homemade jam next to massive piles of wilting Swiss chard that students would just have to figure out how to use. “It feels really good, knowing that we’re distributing the produce that the New England land gives us.”
“Every time a community member comes to pick up a share, it makes me happy,” Gold continued, passing a brown paper bag containing one small tin of organic milk and several tons of bruised heads of cabbage to a customer. “To distribute so many local products to the Fox Point area is incredibly rewarding.”
At press time, Trader Joe’s announced plans to sell thirty varieties of chocolate-covered Brazil nuts and one kind of breakfast cereal.
