Struggling to muffle his giggles, cheeky 911 operator Tim McGown repeatedly pretended to be an answering machine recording while responding to emergency calls on Monday. “You’ve reached the mailbox of the police, please leave a message after the beep. Beep,” said McGown, excitedly listening to the confusion and distress of the caller on the other end of the line before he impersonated a Verizon employee disconnecting the call. “Sometimes they actually start to leave a message. That’s the real treat. One time a lady even started to say her phone number so I could call her back, but I giggled pretty loud and she realized it was a prank, so I had to apologize.” At press time, McGown was heard asking a caller if their refrigerator was running.
