Closing Themed Restaurant To Close Doors For Last Time After 40 Years Of Closing Doors For Last Time

Published Friday, March 7th, 2014

We’re Closing, a local restaurant themed after the act of closing a restaurant, yesterday announced plans to close its doors for the last time after 40 years of closing its doors for the last time, but this time will be the last last time.

Though the local haunt has done steady business since it first closed its doors for the last time for the first time during its 1974 grand opening, the establishment’s finances took too much of a toll during the recession, forcing owner Lionel Drummond to close up shop, but for real now, not just as part of the restaurant’s closing motif.

“Our city will be losing a real treasure when this places closes,” said City Council Member Corbin Woodley. "With its lavishly boarded up windows ornately spray-painted with the words “Out of Business,” We’re Closing has always served as a symbol of the city’s economic strength, especially in times of recession."

Drummond is sad to have to close down the restaurant, an establishment first opened and then theatrically closed every single day thereafter by his father, Calvin Elijah Drummond.

“You know, when my father started this restaurant in 1974, I bet he never pictured this day would come,” remarked Drummond, signing the last paycheck for one of his employees, but the real last check, not the last check he signs for all employees every night as part of the restaurant’s theme. “Of course, he probably did picture it, but when he was picturing it, he probably just assumed the closing was part of the restaurant’s already established closing theme and not an actual permanent closing of the business.”

“I’m just glad he’s not here to see it go,” Drummond continued. “That would’ve been too much for him. Though he was a man who enjoyed closing restaurants, as evidenced by the place’s gimmick. Who knows, maybe he would’ve liked it. That man was a monster.”
