Coward Dog on Dock Barks at Brave Dog in Lake

Published Monday, March 11th, 2013

Reports from Canyon Lake in New Braunfels, Texas indicate that yesterday afternoon, coward dog Rufus sat on a dock and barked for nearly half an hour at a dog named Charlie who was brave enough to enter the lake.

“Sitting pretty on the dock, but barking his little head off,” said owner of both dogs Melanie West, who despite her best efforts to raise two courageous dogs, ended up with one who shies away from even the slightest risk. “That’s just like Rufus. He doesn’t like swimming.”

When Charlie paddled out to a stick tossed far into the lake, Rufus could only run yelping from one end of the dock to the other, eyewitnesses said. “(Rufus) will never go in there, not in a million years,” West declared, referring to the gutless dog’s refusal to take a single step into the body of water Charlie had repeatedly proven to be safe. “Look what happens when I try to give him a nudge. See! He won’t let me go near him!”

“Rufus, do you want a stick?” asked West. “I’ll throw yours on the grass, okay?”

West proceeded to lob a stick onto the lawn, where Rufus regarded it for just a few seconds before turning his screeching barks back towards the lake, where Charlie had gotten all the way out to the big white buoy.
