During a recent family car ride, your dad announced he would play the “original version” of the song you just played.
“Don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastic song, but Bananarama did it first,” exclaimed your dad, as he scrolled through his only playlist on his Spotify account. “I remember when I was your age, I snuck out of my house so I could go to the record store and buy “Cruel Summer” after hearing it on the radio. Now, it’s just turned into a pop hit. They really don’t make music like they used to.”
“Here it goes… It’s a cruel, cruel summer… Listen to that guitar riff!” shouted your dad enthusiastically, before telling you a story about how he met the band leader’s cousin in college. “Wow. Did you hear that? Music nowadays is just so bland and boring. But, I’m sure Taylor Swift is a great artist.”
At press time, your mom is going to tell you what that was before they made it a Chipotle.
