According to reports from the Weiss-Stewart household, the family’s Jewish father will be allowed to hang a singular dreidel ornament on the Christmas tree.
“It’s great to include a slice of my upbringing in our family tradition,” said father Jeffrey Weiss-Stewart as he nestled a lone $3 dreidel ornament into the thick brambles of the family tree. “I think this will be a perfect opportunity to introduce my kids to authentic Jewish culture.”
“Hanukkah is a celebration of many things: the victory of the Maccabees, the dedication of the Second Temple, and the miracle of one jar of oil lighting a Menorah for eight nights,” said Weiss-Stewart, adjusting the dreidel so that it wouldn’t be obscured behind layers of tinsel and LED string lights. “And there’s no way I would rather symbolize these complex ideas than with this dreidel Christmas tree ornament.”
“I got greedy last year; I tried to hang the dreidel ornament and a little Menorah on the tree,” continued Weiss-Stewart while he admired his dreidel ornament sitting between a gingerbread man with a missing leg and a pinecone coated in silver spray-paint. “Needless to say, I’ve since learned that this singular dreidel ornament is more than enough to get the point across.”
At press time, the family finally let their Jewish father put “I Have a Little Dreidel” on the Christmas playlist.
