Kid Not Sure What To Actually Do With Pipe Cleaner

Published Friday, October 29th, 2021

After choosing a fuzzy orange wire from his first-grade teacher’s arts and crafts box and twisting it a bit, local kid David Appel announced he’s not sure what to actually do with his pipe cleaner.

“Am I supposed to make something?” he said, confusedly prodding at the neon fuzz. “I don’t know what to do. I don’t think I like this very much.”

After folding the pipe cleaner in half a few times, Appel threw up his hands in exasperation.

“It just lies there,” Appel complained, the pipe cleaner lying flat on his desk. “I guess some people make those little animals, like penguins, but I don’t wanna just wrap it around stuff all day.”

“This is boring,” he said as the pipe cleaner’s fuzz began to wear thin and the silver wire started poking through. “Ms. Perry told my mom at parent-teacher conferences that I’m creative, but this makes me think I’m not.”

At press time, Appel was attempting to play with a single wooden block.
