Literary Arts concentrator Cal Melonson recently announced to the other members of his Fiction II seminar that he’s gonna play around with time in this one.

“I’m not sure if this is gonna work, it might just be too crazy, and let me know if it is, but I think I’m gonna make this piece non-linear,” said Melonson, discussing the four-page story he’s writing for class. “Like, I think I’ll start at one point and then go back to a few years before, and then go back to where I started. I wanna try something a little different, you know?”

“Maybe I’ll switch back and forth between the past and the present—does that sound hard to follow?” Melonson continued, explaining that he wants to show what his protagonist was like both as a young boy and an old man. “Maybe it’s good if it’s confusing, actually, because it mirrors how my character is confused. And time doesn’t always feel like a straight line, you know? Does this make any sense? Sorry for getting so abstract!”

At press time, Melonson announced that he’s gonna put the story in the second person.
