Model UN Kid’s Rhetorical Prowess Undermined By Voice Crack

Published Friday, February 16th, 2024

Sources attending Yale University’s 2024 Model UN conference confirmed that 10th grader Julian Osborne’s rhetorical prowess in the security council was severely undermined by an untimely voice crack.

“He was saying some really nuanced stuff about the sociopolitical status of Kashmir, but then he made this terrible squeaking sound,” said 11th grader Olivia Ricketts, delegate for Algeria, in the middle of a 5-minute unmoderated caucus. “If you ask me, it seems like a sign of unpreparedness.”

“He tried to get back on track by mentioning the deployment of UN peacekeepers, but it was pretty clear that the room wasn’t taking him seriously after his own vocal chords betrayed him like that,” continued Ricketts, looking just a bit too pleased to discuss the downfall of her political rival. “I mean, after a blunder as embarrassing as that, it’s no wonder nobody cares what he has to say.”

“He was in the running for Best Delegate before this, but now? It’s gonna be a tough road ahead, that’s for sure,” added Ricketts before fiercely arguing about funding for humanitarian programs with the delegate for Slovenia, even though neither of them knew a single thing about international economics. “Maybe this is how a more, y’know, deserving candidate gets the recognition she deserves.”

At press time, the legal decorum of a mock trial was ruined by some food stuck in the plaintiff’s braces.
