Recent reports indicate that motion-activated lights going dark sent student Anna Adjuk into a spiral of questioning her reality. “I was working in an empty classroom when all of a sudden, darkness,” Adjuk recalled, her eyes flitting around the room in a panic. “Was I sitting too still, or had I ceased to exist? In that moment I wasn’t sure. What level of movement had the lights been calibrated to? And why wasn’t I enough of a person for them? I waved my arms around, but nothing happened. I walked up and jumped around and then they came back on, which was a relief. I still felt weird though, so I decided to write my essay while walking around the room so it wouldn’t happen again." At press time, Adjuk walked straight into a set of closed automatic doors.
