After extensive research into psychoactive effects, the new Netflix Original series Wild Girls has completely accurately portrayed a psychedelic trip with the use of silly filters and crazy colors.
“We’re gonna start the scene with some slightly dizzying music, then we throw a swirl filter onto the faces of every character who’s tripping,” said Lance Bates, head of the show’s visual effects team, switching to a swirly wobbly fish eye effect to really replicate the disorienting physical, mental, and emotional effects of a psychedelic trip. “We’ll add some purple spirals in the background and BAM! Instant shroom trip.”
“We’re thinking about putting in a big puppet too, which will represent the mystic figure of Baphomet whom the characters speak to in the psychedelic plane,” continued Bates, adding a blur transition while the characters tottered around the screen, obviously in the middle of a psychedelic trip. “Finally, we’re gonna add a big blue orb, and then really turn up the silly colors. It’s gonna be perfect.”
At press time, another Netflix film was portraying a near-death experience by blacking out the screen and playing a slight buzzing noise.
