A recent report has found that everything on the street suddenly becomes super interesting when someone you sort of know is walking toward you.
“When a vague acquaintance is headed your way, the sidewalk actually becomes 500 percent more interesting,” said Dan Chamberlain, the lead psychologist conducting the study. “We’re seeing similar numbers regarding the sky, as well as passing cars or little tiny sticks on the ground.”
Screen time usage was also found to increase tenfold when someone you maybe met a few times is heading your way. “There was a demonstrable spike in usage for the weather app, in particular,” said Chamberlain. “Also, we discovered that suddenly that tree over there has a lot of leaves and is very treelike.”
At press time, a new report suggested that instances of the words “dude” and “man” increased exponentially when greeting someone you kind of know but not super well.
