Chiming in to share her feedback on the piece up for workshop, Creative Nonfiction student Emily Dibiasi emphasized that she thinks the present tense really puts you in the moment there. “I just think that putting this part in the present tense did a really good job making you feel like this was going on right now,” Dibiasi said, noting that the change in verb tenses actually didn’t trip her up at all. “Your voice just flows really nicely, so it doesn’t get confusing or anything when you bring it into the present tense. I’d say it definitely makes you feel like you’re really going through the moment as you read about it, so I’d probably keep it that way.” Dibiasi concluded her comment by adding that she thought the use of the second person was a really interesting choice but it totally worked.
