In a community-wide email linking recent COVID-19 spikes on campus to large social gatherings, the University threatened to crack down on all superspreader parties not hosted by children of wealthy donors.
“We are investigating several concerning reports of large gatherings where students were unmasked and underprivileged,” the statement read, emphasizing that the University would not tolerate any violations of its COVID-19 policies by students whose parents have made no sizable donations to the BrownTogether fundraising campaign. “We will continue to impose significant sanctions on all students who disregard the gathering size limit without any personal connection to at least one trustee on the Corporation.”
The statement went on to warn that serious offenses could result in immediate suspension and removal from campus for any students who lack the resources to sue the University.
“The COVID-19 Student Conduct agreement must be followed by every student whose family has not accumulated enough wealth to make large contributions to Brown’s endowment,” the statement continued, adding that students can protect themselves by wearing masks outside their pods and by making a gift to the Brown Annual Fund today. “If any student is found responsible for hosting or attending a large social gathering, they will face severe consequences — unless the price is right.”
The statement concluded by reminding students that they are not permitted to travel anywhere out of state except to their families’ private oceanfront mansions.
