Local woman Betty Arnold flipping the sign of her general store to “closed” is reportedly a really poetic moment. “Something about it just makes me feel all kinds of emotions,” said onlooker Joseph Svec, as Arnold turned the laminated sign from one flat side to the other flat side. “Maybe because ‘closed’ means so much more than just the shop closing. Maybe it’s alluding to something about aging, or something about capitalism. Or maybe it’s just about going to bed after a long day of work, something universal like that. Either way, seeing Betty flip that sign from “open” to “closed” is so subtly beautiful. Wow.” At press time, Arnold’s flipping of the sign to “open” signified the dawn of a new day, a better day.
